Montesarchio is a community in the Province of Benevento in southern Italy. The community was granted the official status of a city on the 31st of July 1977.

About the twinning agreement

A request was made in 2005 by Mr. Antonio Izzo, the then mayor of Montesarchio, to the then mayor of Bethlehem to consider the possibility of twinning the two cities. In October 2005, Bethlehem Municipal Council approved the idea, which was followed by a visit from the then mayor of Bethlehem, Mr. Victor Batarseh, to Montesarchio in November 2006. The two mayors made a commitment to maintain long term relationships between their countries for five years, renewed automatically unless its annulment is requested. They agreed on the exchange between their inhabitants (particularly schoolchildren), to develop mutual comprehension a real feeling of European brotherhood, and to join their efforts to reach the ideals of peace and prosperity.
