About the city
Greccio is one of the oldest municipalities in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio. In the 11th century, this area was called Greci or Grizzy. It is located at a height of 705 meters above sea level, on the slopes of the Lachiruni mountain. The region has a magnificent panoramic view of the Santa Riatina Valley.
About the Twinning Agreement
In December 1992, the twinning agreement was signed between Bethlehem Municipality, represented by its then mayor Mr. Elias Freij and Municipality of Greccio, represented by its then mayor Mr. Angelo Ilarri. The twinning relationship included the organization of an exhibition of traditional Palestinian crafts in Italy and the establishment of events for peace, in addition to organizing a live event of the Birth of Christ in the Christmas of 2013 in Bethlehem city. In 2003, the mayor of Bethlehem provided the city of Greccio an honorary citizenship.
